S/S Self Tapping Screws OS : Can I use stainless steel self tapping screws to replace wood screws in a picnic table that I am repairing? I have a lot of #12 x 2.5 SS Self tapping screws that was left over from a previous project.

I believe they will work fine and last a long time. They are a bit moreexpensive, but since you already have them, why not? I have used SSscrews to fasten a protective cover on a picnic table and they are stillbright. Jay Clymer

The big difference between a self tapper and a wood screw is that the wood screw is only partially threaded and designed to draw two pieces of wood together.  If the wood is already tight, then the self tapper will work.  If you are removing wood screws and replacing with self tappers, do one at a time so that the self tappers don't create a gap.
