Awlbrite over Total Boat Varnish

2 posts in this topic

I am refinishing a fighting chair on a sportfisherman.  I plan to seal with West System epoxy, UV protect with Total Boat varnish and finish protect with Awlbrite.  Do you see any chemical incompatability problems with this schedule?  Thanks, Pete

No problem with the epoxy that has been cleaned of amine blush then varnish.  Awlbrite surface preparation is to apply over cured Awlspar or Awlbrite Quick-fil.  Do not apply Awlbrite direct to bare wood.  If applying over old varnish in good condition sand with 220 - 320 grit to remove the gloss, wipe with a surface solvent like denatured alcohol.  Test a small area to make sure the Awlbrite doesn't attack the old finish.
