Need a clear varnish

2 posts in this topic

Hello,

Know nothing about varnish....new builder.....used Awlspar classic spar vanrnish (tiller, thwart, oars, etc.) Do not like the yellow/amber tint. Is there a clear varnish that would allow the color of the wood (Ash) to remain? Want something with as little upkeep as possible. Also, is it possible to remove the Awlspar completely (ie. get rid of the color)?

Thank you for any thoughts,

Will

If you want a clear finish, I'd recommend a two part polyurethane type finish like Interlux Perfection Plus or Totalboat Envy varnish.  They are very hard and durable and go on clear.  You can remove the Awlspar by either sanding or with a paint/varnish remover.
