engine idle = shifting ?

1 post in this topic

Hello - my 1989 284 Chris Craft Amerosport was stalling a bit (at start up) and hard to start. The idle was down to about 4 thousand rpm - I turned them (chevy 305) up to about 7 thousand. They started and ran nicely - but now I have to yank it out or and shove it into gear. Some times I cant get it out of gear.

There is no neutral button on shifters - there's only one shift per engine. I noticed many boats have two sets - one for speed control and one for gear shift.

Also with this system - you cant rev the engine while warming it up.  Is there a certain rpm I should be trying for ?

Any help would be appreciate -
