1987 Dixie boat stringer replacement

2 posts in this topic

I'm repairing a 16' Dixie skiff and have several questions about the using the prisma preforms for stringer replacement. Can I cut down the preforms for height? Do the need to add cloth over them or just at the joints? There is 1/2 height difference in the stringer groove and rest of the hull will I have to grind that down smooth or can I leave a little to locate preforms location? Thank You

If needed, you could peel back some of the cloth and shave the bottom of the preformed hull beam/stringer.  It's best to fiberglass over the hole beam for added strength.  Not sure what you are referring to in the 1/2" height difference in the stringer groove, you will need to seat the bottom of the beam to the bottom of the hull when installing.
